How should I read my Bible

We live in a world, a world that affects us very much. We let the stress take over very much in our lives and we know very well that this is not a good thing. Stress is something that is very normal and have always been there but how should I do to overcome this stress; this is exactly what most have problems with. Many do not realize that they are living in stress until the day when the body or psyche charged, but unfortunately, it can be late.

There are a lot of ways to overcome such as the stress arising in our daily lives and one of them is to seek solace and guidance in the Bible. This method does not only give you peace and harmony, but it is a time where there is a possibility that God speaks to one. There is no need to feel stress every time you have to read the Bible, quite the contrary. By having the Bible at hand at all time, you can partly overcome the stress, but above all to do Bible reading a part of your daily life.

Reading the Bible is not something that is easy because it is not like others, and therefore I understand that there are many who really have tried to read the Bible but not really "managed to" understand the meaning of the text or managed to get any continuity in the reading. Then it is very easy to stop to read the Bible when we know that we can not get any benefit out of it. What is the reason for this? Well, I do believe that we simply read the Bible in the wrong way, a way in which it has been difficult to absorb what it says. Therefore, there is little advice on how to prepare and to remove the worldly thoughts before you read the Bible and hopefully facilitate so that the concentration is only directed to God.

A few advices of how to read the Bible:
  • First and foremost, be still, try to put all the worldly things aside and think of the word you are about to read is the word of God.
  • Begin the Bible reading with prayer. Pray that God may be close to you, and through His Word give you new clarity and a new impetus.
  • Let the thoughts take time verse after verse. Ask yourself: What does it say here?
  • It is important that you apply the Word of yourself and not just observe how it was in ancient time. Read to see the way to eternal life. Read willingly with pen in hand and dash the words or verses that have a message for you right now.
  • Do not close the Bible without take with you a word, a verse or a thought that may be the point of today's Bible reading.
  • Obey what God through His word say to you. Jesus said: "If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God" (John 7:17).
  • Always end with prayer and apply in prayer what the Bible reading has given you. Try to be regular and enduranced because there are times when you are not getting out anything of what you read. Remember then that the main thing is not what you know, but what God is doing. The Word works invisible.

"Do not be sad if God not immediately give you what you ask for. He wants to give you something better - endurance in prayer " (Churchfather Evagrios of Pontos).

A prayer:

Lord, give me wisdom so that I can understand your Son Christ's saving words. Lift away the veil of evil desires from my soul face. Let your holy light shine into my heart, so that I with the soul's eye can behold the holy mysteries of the gospel. Teach me, Lord, see the truth of faith in you and the obeying for your bids, so that I may carry such a fruit that pleases you and win the gifts that pleases your blessed will. Amen!
